Mona in the Promised Land

Why does Mona's family not support her becoming Jewish? Why do they hate the idea of it so much?

  1. Her family does not support her being Jewish mainly because they feel that she should remain Catholic; Catholicism is important to them because it is common among the US population. Helen refuses to let Mona switch religions; however, Mona already has.
