Helen was probably so upset about Mona turning jewish because she felt betrayed; however, I do not think Mona meant to betray or offend her mom. She was also probably mad at herself and wondering if it was something that she did to make Mona want to convert. Helen wanted Mona to follow in her footsteps; she did not want Mona to go down a different path.
