  1. Why does Holden care only about innocent, childish things, like the ducks on the pond in central park and Jane playing checkers, and not at all about his future?

  2. Why does Holden think about the ducks in Central Park while talking to Spencer about flunking him and not about what he is saying to Spencer? Is this showing that he doesn't care about his actions and why?

  9. How come Holden think of everything as a joke and does things he wants instead of trying to do well in school? Why does he not think it important to tell his parents of his expulsion and instead keep it secret?
